Hotel Alpen Resort

This hotel was awesome from start to finish! We ended up checking in around 10pm and were greeted with a smile, the room was so big and had everything we needed. We had a balcony room with a view of the Matterhorn which was amazing! The breakfast was fantastic, it was a buffet and even had Mimosas. Upon checkout we were told we could store our bags and still use their facilities. So after a walk around town, we came back and played tennis. Overall an awesome stay and so worth the price!

My wife and I stayed at the Alpen Resort at the end of February, 2020. We’ve skied / traveled all over the world and I can’t say enough good things about this hotel. First of all it’s a great value compared to the other options in Zermatt, especially considering the spacious rooms with expansive views of the surrounding mountains. Yes the property is not in the main village, but the town square is only a short 10 min walk away. Best of all the ski bus stops maybe 30 meters from the hotel entrance, and the Gornergrat Bahn is an easy 5 min walk. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, and the afternoon tea and cake much appreciated. There is a nice, though dated, pool/ hot tub/ spa area/ recreation area in the basement. Great for kids, maybe a little to crowded/ cold for adults. One nice touch is the ski locker area, which includes secure storage for each room and boot dryers(!!). Just a wonderful place to stay!

Well located, close to train station and the E-bus stop. Rooms are spacious but dated. Pillow were flat and no bath amenities provided. For the price paid, this is disappointing and reflects the lack of competition in Zermatt. There are no big chains and an under supply of rooms and the prices are highly inflated. In fact,although Zermatt has its charms and boast spectacular views, it is highly overrated and overpriced. The skiing conditions are disappointing, and that’s a separate topic of discussion. Back to the hotel, the breakfast is ordinary at best and the food items are not well replenished. The sporting amenities include a jacuzzi, a dated indoor pool with spa jets, pool table and fusball tables. The staff is variable. Front desk staff is typically friendly but we found that they can be variable if you need particular attention. For instance, when we awaiting the hotel shuttle to the train station for 20 minutes on checkout and pointing that to the staff, one of the female staff appeared exasperated and told the shuttle was busy and to keep waiting causing us to miss our train. Fortunately one of other front desk person went out of his way to personally drop us to the station.
