A town of two halves
Once considered one of Mexico’s lesser-trodden tourist towns, way behind the likes of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Tulum has taken its own place in the spotlight in recent years. A beach to gawp at
Tulum’s Insta-ready, talc-soft sand stretches for miles, right below the ruin-topped cliffs, and hand-in-hand with the sprawling jungle. And its name’s pretty apt, too – Paradise Beach. If you fancy sprawling out and catching some rays, or joining in with a sunrise yoga session, this is the place to head for.
Go nuts for nature
It’s not all Insta-worthy sands and Caribbean cocktails here, although they certainly play their part. Come between May and October and you’ll spot turtles nesting on the beaches. And there’s always a good time to head to the nearby town of Sian Ka’an – this UNESCO-protected biosphere reserve’s made up of mangroves, lagoons and a barrier reef.
