Holidays to Jandia take you to a small, friendly resort with some big attractions. There’s the top-notch hiking, the world-class windsurfing – and some of the best beaches in Europe.
Set on Fuerteventura’s southern tip, Jandia is a small, modern resort that’s joined at the hip to traditional old town, Morro Jable. The place comes with a clutch of beachfront restaurants and shopping centres filled with shops and bars. But the location is the real draw. You’ve got a top windsurfing spot here – and a whopping 32 kilometres of coastline to do it on.
For sunbathers, Jandia has a 4-kilometre stretch of white sand to play with – and if you need it, there’s more on the way to Morro Jable. They’re not big on sunloungers here, though, so you’ll need to bring a towel. As for the sea, the clear, warm water stays shallow a long way out – perfect for paddlers and learner windsurfers.
Handily, the resort is surrounded by Jandia National Park. Hikers can take the place on, or you can rent a 4-wheel drive to get you round the unpaved tracks that criss-cross the area. Either way, you get sweeping views of remote sand dunes and untouched beaches framed by peaked volcanic ridges. And bird-watchers should keep an eye out for kestrels and Egyptian vultures.
