Weird and wonderful !

We originally picked the Aberdeen as it provided everything that we wanted in accomodation. Quiet location, not too big, nice pool and a pleasant steady walk into town without being too close. We'd read the reviews and given that the most recent before we flew out were a little negative, we were unsure what to expect. After unpacking, we headed to the bar to get a feel for the place and hopefully meet the owners Carol & Vasillis and maybe a few other new guests. This is the point where it got a little weird. Everyone knew each other, with all of the guests clearly returning year after year, we were the only new arrivals there that hadn't been before. It took a couple of days to adjust to this and the fact that as mentioned before, Vasillis is quite a character! It would have been easy to declare at this point that we felt it too cliquey and not for us but on the contrary, we grew to love it. It's peaceful, clean, and on several days there were only a few of us around the pool...heaven!. You soon realise that you are staying with a family that genuinely care about their guests, unusual in this day and age. We also took part in the infamous Thursday night film production which is about fun and laughter and not worrying about making a fool of yourself. You can be as involved or as insular as you like, there were guests there that we never saw for the whole 2 weeks, they just appeared on the coach for the transfer back. We met some lovely people who just happen to meet up with friends who enjoy the same holiday, it's not cliquey. If you're not prepared to relax, chat to strangers or maybe 'debate' a little with Vasillis then this holiday probably isn't for you. We have commitments for 2020 so cannot return but we will definitely be back at the Aberdeen in 2021. Matt & Sue
Very warm welcome awaits

We first saw the Aberdeen in the tui office. It looked clean and well presented. The actual place is no different. The chalet was immaculate. The bedding, spotless. There was even hot running water. The hosts are...quirky but very knowledgeable about the history of the island and the attractions available. We really enjoyed the cast majority of the stay but the only negative is being the hosts control. The apartments are next to a generally quiet road until the ferries arrive and leave. Then, it's like sitting next to the m6. Overall though great stay. Thanks guys.
Brilliant stay again

This was my wife and i's second visit and what a great time we had. Accommodation has all that you need including a kettle, and the best shower ever with a great supply of hot water whatever the time of day. 20 mins walk to town with a wide range of restaurants, although carol does a great range of food. The Aberdeen is laid back during the day and in the evening, you are welcomed to meet and mix with all of the guests staying there. Previous reports say it is clicky, but everyone goes there for a first time and all are welcome. Thursday night is film night, but you are not pressurised to join in, just watching is an experience. I don't get how some people can say that they are not welcome, this is the friendliest place I have stayed at, and vasilis , Carol, zoe and Cheryl will go out of their way to assist you to have a great holiday. Maybe those who complain should try and mix a bit more. The rooms at the back experience a little road noise but this is thassos it is a working port, with transport going down past the studios to the ferry, therefore there will be some noise, but these rooms have shade all day. Try mixing and letting go for a week or two and you will experience hospitality at its best.it's an opportunity to meet other guests and share experiences of the island. Vasilis had a knack of getting guests together to chat about their day... Though you may be sized up for Thursday film night (not compulsory). The rooms provide all that you need, and are cleaned, with linen changed regularly. It's not clicky, there are just guests that like to mix and enjoy the company of others. It has been said that its like a residential home.. If that's the case... Book me in. The aberdeen studios is relaxed and offers a great experience, that's why so many book to go back.. Try it, you may like it.... We do
A little disappointing!

Previous reviews appeared very good, but sadly, we didn't find it as described. Our studio faced a very busy road, apparently the main route for lorries and cars coming onto the island from the mainland ferries. The road also appeared to be a late night/early morning 'race track' for motorcyclists. The whole complex was somewhat tired, shabby and dirty, in need of refurbishment. The pool/bar area was good, no umbrellas, but plenty of sunbeds. Carol, the owner's wife, was very helpful, lots of info on the local area, nothing too much trouble. Lots of people were 'repeat' visitors and, as 'newcomers', we felt there was a kind of 'clique' atmosphere.
What the Berto are you talking about....?

Well, I have just had quite a chuckle at the negative review posted by Berto. I am confused as to why you would book your holiday just because you are intrigued at previous reviews! Impressed, yes, but not intrigued! Either you are looking for a relaxing, affordable place to stay which offers typical Greek hospitality with a Scottish twist or you want an untypical experience at an upmarket place in the middle of the town. If you can afford untypical, upmarket - do it. Otherwise ..... Aberdeen offers a studio apartment on the outskirts of the town. It takes around 15-20 minutes to walk to the harbour and it’s well worth the effort. A regular bus service gives the opportunity to discover other parts of this beautiful island, or a car can be hired to get to places in more remote locations should you wish. And.... if you need advice, either Carol or Vasilis will happily give it. I have travelled quite extensively to many parts of the world and have seen mismatched poolside furniture in a 5 star resort - so Aberdeen isn’t unique in that respect. It does not alter the quality of the welcome, the quality of the food served by Carol or the overall experience of the holiday. There are a number of returning guests for a reason. The main one being that they do not agree with the negativity expressed below. If you make an effort to join in - you will be embraced and if you choose not to, don’t complain that the place is cliquey ( not clicky).
