Beautiful Bitez

Bitez is a lot quieter than Turkey's better-known Bodrum, which is just a 15-minute drive along the southern coast. With its whitewashed houses, Bitez has held onto its original fishing village feel. The town's Blue Flag award-winning beach – with free sunloungers, no less – makes it a firm family favourite.

Swim and snorkel

Trips to shimmering bays on the Bodrum peninsula leave from Halikarnas Harbour – many of the best snorkelling spots can only be reached by boat. It's also common to throw anchor and grill up a traditional Turkish lunch on-deck on your way to these clear-water coves.

Bustling Bodrum

The glitzy city of Bodrum, once home to the long-gone Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, is your one-stop-shop for upmarket shops, historical sightseeing and a marina full of megayachts. The Museum of Underwater Archaeology showcases treasures recovered from sunken ships, and at night the shoreline lights up with beach bars and open-air clubs.
