Es Castell holidays put you right by the ocean with breezy beach views, lively music and a line-up of historical daytrips.

A colourful seaside hub

Set on Menorca's south-east coast in Spain's Balearic Islands, Es Castell's got colonial buildings set against a striking natural harbour. You can fuel up at a local restaurant before browsing the bustling market. Outside town, there are nature-cloaked landmarks and pretty routes to the island capital of Mahon.

Inland ideas

Beyond the beach, Es Castell's a great launching pad for exploring inland. Tap your feet to folk tunes at a local music bar, then follow up with a tour around Fort Marlborough, less than 10 minutes' drive south. For something more ancient, check out Talaiot de Trebaluger, which is a similar distance away. Its rock formations are Menorca's answer to Stonehenge.

Seaward sights

Menorca's shores like to be put on show. The town's coastline cuts right into the rock, so you can dine al fresco, right by the sea. For beach lovers, sandy Punta Prima is a 20-minute drive away – it's the perfect spot to top up your tan on a sunlounger.

Industrious island

The island's biggest star's the capital of Mahon, a 15-minute drive west from Es Castell. Activities here range from museum visits and gin distillery tours to diving in the nearby marine wildlife reserve. Those looking for homespun favourites can shop with the locals at the Claustre del Carme market.
