Holidays to Katelios are the real Greek deal, with traditional tavernas, unspoiled beaches and plenty of action a stone's throw away.
Tradition meets tourism
Dodge the crowds and get a feel for real Greek living in this peaceful gem on the south coast of Kefalonia, one the Ionian Islands. Katelios has all the tranquil charm you'd expect from a sleepy fishing village, but it's also within easy reach of bigger towns – fun-loving Skala's only 10 minutes down the road by car.
A to Beach
Getting around's as easy as can be. Hopping on a bus to island-capital Argostoli is a doddle, as there's a service that runs twice daily, introducing you to archaeological sights, souvenir shops, a palm-lined promenade and a bustling main square. Closer to home is untouched Mounda Beach, just a 15-minute drive away. And, teeny, sandy Agia Barbara Beach is even nearer at a few minutes' walk.
Postcard perfection
Katelios is well-staged for snap-happy moments, with its own stretch of sand and pebbles looking out to a panoramic ocean view. It's got a cute little harbour full of bobbing fishing boats, and seafront tavernas are prime territory for soaking up the scene with an aperitif in hand.
