From its sandy strip of beach to its host of adventure activities, Omis holidays are a mix of the laidback and the lively.

A scenic backdrop

This under-the radar spot on Croatia’s south coast sits at the mouth of the Cetina River, which splits the town in two. Postcard-worthy pictures are a given, thanks to the rugged mountains and tree-topped hills that lie behind the town, and its seafront bars and restaurants offer up plenty of substance to match its style.

Action and adventure

Thanks to its seaside plot, mountainous terrain and river running through its middle, Omis is a go-to town for adrenaline junkies. Rafting and kayaking are just a couple of the activities that make full use of the Cetina River’s scenic waterway, while on dry land, cliff jumping and rock climbing both bring the mountains into play. Top of the lot for adventure fans, though, are the town’s zip lines. There are eight in total to whizz down – the biggest one’s 700 metres long, and a whole 150 metres above the ground.

Sightseeing and beaches

There’s plenty of to-dos if you prefer your holidays on the quieter side, too. The town centre’s sandy beach stretches for 700 metres, so there’s plenty of wriggle room for sunbathers. And for a mix of history and first-class views, take a trip up to the Mirabella and Starigrad fortresses. They’ve both been around for centuries, and the views over the town centre and the Adriatica are worth the steep climbs to the top.

Daytrips to Split

Croatia’s second-biggest city’s just 30 minutes’ drive up the coast, so it’s ideal for daytrippers. From its pretty-as-a-picture old town to a Blue Flag beach and a 200-plus-stores shopping mall, it ticks a whole host of boxes. And not forgetting its Game of Thrones links – large parts of the popular TV show were filmed in the city, and you can take a tour while you’re there.
