Holidays to Piskopiano Village are a feast for the eyes, with sweeping views and historic sights within easy reach.

Quite a sight

This tiny hideaway in the north-east of Crete's Heraklion area has got lots of traditional Greek charm. Narrow lanes wind their way past rustic tavernas, and the whitewashed houses have blue doors and terracotta tile roofs. The postcard views don't end there – the village overlooks the whole valley and out to sea.

Beachy keen

It wouldn't be a Greek island getaway without a dip in the sparkling sea. Star Beach is the closest sandy stretch – just a five-minute drive away and popular for its lively atmosphere. Anissaras is 10 minutes away and a more laidback affair, complete with sunloungers and little rock pools.

Historical Heraklion

Get to Heraklion in the morning so you can have your coffee with a side of people-watching in Lion's Square. Marvel at the well-preserved walls of a 13th-century fortress by the waterfront, then head to Agios Minas Cathedral and gaze up at its amazing painted ceiling. The city's only 25 minutes by car from Piskopiano Village, so it's an easy daytrip.
