Holidays to Plimmiri centre around the beach – a massive sand-and-shingle stretch with a sand-dune backdrop and a taverna on hand for seafood lunches.
You’ll find Plimmiri nestled beside a bay in Rhodes’ south-eastern corner. Aside from a fishing harbour and one taverna, all you’ll find here is a beach – but what a beach it is. Stretching out for a couple of kilometres, it’s a wide belt of sand and shingle, backed by greenery and sand dunes.
Head inland and you’ll find the postcard-pretty villages of Kattavia and Lachania – both 15 minutes’ drive away. A 15-minute drive up the coast, meanwhile, takes you to Gennadi, a seaside town with whitewashed houses and pin-thin alleyways. Travel 10 minutes further and you’ll reach Kiotari. The star attraction here is the Blue Flag beach, which comes with watersports like parasailing and pedalos.
The pretty village of Lindos is about 40 minutes away by car. Its whitewashed buildings and cobbled streets sit at the foot of a hill, on top of which stand the ruins of an ancient acropolis. Rhodes Town is also do-able in a day. It’s around 90 minutes’ drive away and features an old town that’s had UNESCO’s seal of approval.
