Porto Petro holidays deliver the kind of quiet that would please a bookworm. Plus, there's a national park next door.

Keep shtum about Porto Petro

Porto Petro on the Balearic island of Majorca is the sort of place you’ll want to keep a secret. It’s library-quiet and girl-next-door-pretty, with a couple of sandy coves where you can roll out your towel. The village’s main ingredients are tree-lined lanes, boats bobbing in the harbour, and low-key bars that entertain an in-the-know crowd.

Majorca’s secret beach

The best must-see beach in the area is Cala Mondrago, a pint-sized number in the Mondrago National Park. It’s a five-minute drive from Porto Petro. This beach’s good looks have earned it a protected status – expect rolling sand dunes, towering pine forests, rocky coves and window-clear water.

Cala d’Or and hikes in Mondrago

If you want a break from the beach, whizz 10-minutes up the road to the town of Cala d’Or. It’s triple the size of Porto Petro, and racks up lots of places to eat and drink. Nature enthusiasts, meanwhile, can hike one of the rugged trails around the Mondrago National Park.
