Skala Rachoni holidays are all about getting to grips with Greece's authentic side. The area's ripe with olive trees, whitewashed churches and classic cuisine.

Back in time

Surrounded by the olive groves and sweet-smelling pines of northern Thassos island, the sleepy village of Skala Rachoni feels straight out of another century. You'll find a picturesque main square, a handful of rustic stone villas, weathered tavernas and bars, and a pretty stone chapel all bundled into one pin-drip-peaceful package

Beach retreat

Like the village, the local beach – an arcing crescent of wide, golden sand – has a timeless air about it. Traditional fishing boats still rule the roost here, although sunloungers and food shacks are starting to pop up. A modest selection of watersports are available at the far end of the beach.

Out and about

The rolling countryside of Thassos practically begs to be explored. Set aside time for the hour-long walk to the original village of Rachoni, famed for its olive oil and honey. Jaw-dropping views reward cyclists who venture up to the rugged, pine-cloaked mountains.
