Camp de Mar holidays land you in the back garden of the rich and famous, who flock here for a peaceful portion of Spanish sun.
One of Camp de Mar’s biggest draws is its under-the-radar status. It’s not your standard package holiday haunt, which means you’ll see Majorca without the slap. A handful of hotels keep the main beach company, but most of the town’s pinpricked with swanky villas and smart bars and restaurants. As far as the island’s south-west settlements go, this one’s got the most refined palate of the lot.
Celeb spotting’s a pretty easy business in this corner of the island – Camp de Mar’s like catnip to the rich and famous. Tom Cruise has hopped on the property ladder here, and supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s back year after year for the summer. Pierce Brosnan, Sam Neill and Aaron Paul have starred in a film that was shot here. And over in neighbouring Paguera, the elite tennis academy’s been used by Boris Becker and Steffi Graf.
There are a couple of fork and putter-shaped feathers in this town’s cap. The sandy beach nuzzles up to the clear waters of the Med, but both play second fiddle to a tiny restaurant-topped island off the shore. A long wooden bridge connects the two, and the views while you eat are on another level. Swivel inland, and one of the island’s best golf courses turns the landscape a crisp shade of green.
