Holidays to Praia da Gale revolve around the peaceful beach and its super-soft sands, sea-view restaurants, and miles of walking territory.
Long, laidback sands
Life in Praia da Gale revolves around the beach – all five kilometres of it. And it’s hardly surprising, what with its powdery sands, balmy waters, and easy-going coastal restaurants. Also, the sands don’t start and end in Praia da Gale – they stretch both east and west, and dish out dune-filled national parks and scallop-shaped coves made for walking.
Praia da Gale village sits right behind the beach. It’s a peaceful place with whitewashed villas, ancient fig trees, and shady orange groves left over from its farming days. The restaurants are even more laidback than those on the beach – expect family-run joints with fish-heavy menus.
Hop in a car and you’ll find the land around Praia da Gale striped with vineyards – one of them’s even owned by Sir Cliff Richard. It’s only a 15-minute drive to Zoomarine, a family-pleasing combo of waterpark, aquarium, and theme park. And it’s the same distance along the coast to the Algarve’s resident party town, Albufeira. The uber-popular main strip has an array of bars, clubs, and restaurants, while the beach is a launch pad for loads of watersports.
