Best family holidays for February half term

Best family holidays for February half term

The back-to-school routine plus the January blues is a rough combo… Dark morning drop-offs, then the playground pick-up just as it’s getting dark again – never mind whatever work is throwing at you in between. Sounds like you need a holiday ?

Don’t worry, we know you’re thinking it, now we’re just here to validate you. It’s true, Feb half term can’t come soon enough, so we’ve shortlisted the best family breaks to get something locked in to look forward to.

Ready to get outta here? See our latest Family holiday deals.

Tenerife – for fidgety families

Whether your ideal half-term holiday is all about building sandcastles on the beach, hiking through pine forests or riding the big ones at theme parks, this Canary Island has it all. Because of that, it’s a great pick for families who like to get out and explore. Hotel-wise, you’ve got loads of great family-friendly options, from big All Inclusive resorts to smaller spots by the sea.

For ultimate fun, there’s Villa Mandi and Siam Park. Not only does this place have a kids’ club and its own top-tier swimming scene, it also comes with free access to big-name waterpark, Siam Park. Now you wouldn’t get that in the school playground.

St Lucia – for relaxation-ready families

St Lucia might have a reputation as a hotspot for honeymooners, but it’s a seriously underrated family holiday destination, too. There’s plenty of room for running around and burying the most-willing member of the fam in the sand on this island’s typically tropical beaches – plus, they’re ideal for catching some winter sun. It’s a nine-hour flight to get to St Lucia, but the coastal scenes are so worth it.

Go for a stay at the Bay Gardens Hotel, which is close to Rodney Bay’s seafront, and you can take advantage of the free bus down to the beach. Plus, best of all, the price tag’s family-friendly, too.

Fuerteventura – for all-ages families

If you’ve got lots of different ages in your group, Fuerteventura is the place for you. Yes, this Canary Island is home to around 150 beaches for chilling, but it’s also the kind of place where activities are on offer around every corner. Go on a 4×4 off-road tour, exploring volcanic craters and rugged wildlife, or hop on board a pirate ship and cruise along the coast spotting dolphins – there’s so much to pick from.

Hotel-wise, stay close to all the action at the Hotel Chatur Costa Caleta. It’s just a 10-minute walk from the beach and even closer to the local shops and restaurants. That said, there’s no need to escape the hotel – there are four pools alone here, plus a kids’ club and sports courts.

Cyprus – for history-loving families

School might be out, but if your lot are still keen to keep learning, then Cyprus is a bit of you. This island is the mythological birthplace of Greek goddess, Aphrodite, but that’s just the start of its ancient cred. Head to the Paphos Archaeological Park to spot the UNESCO-accredited Tombs of the Kings and a host of other historical gems. Then, if you get tired of exploring, there’s always Cyprus’ 60-odd Blue Flag stretches to balance it all out with some beach days. With temperatures hovering in the teens at this time of year, it’s toastier than it is at home, but still cool enough to comfortably see the sights.

Head to the Coral Beach Hotel and Resort – it’s made for families who don’t like to sit still. There’s a giant lagoon pool – plus an activity pool complete with water slides – as well as sports courts, evening entertainment and art classes to sign up to. Bet they don’t teach traditional Cypriot skills like basket-making or silk painting back home…
