And they’re in… New year, more new arrivals. A brand-new batch of the best new destinations and hotels have joined our ‘just landed’ series. Whether you’re after views to fill your Instagram feed with, an adults-only pad or somewhere to help you stay on budget, you’ll find it here.

Meet the top picks from January’s new arrivals…

Riga, Latvia

You can now take a trip to Latvia to explore its capital city, Riga. The Old Town here is world-famous, brimming with beautiful Art Nouveau buildings and Gothic spires, which are best seen from the top of St Peter’s church. Follow the blues of the Daugava River and get to know Latvia’s history with Soviet Russia and Nazi Germany in one of the amazing museums. In the evenings, there are plenty of lively Baltic bars to pick from – the perfect place to say cheers to your newfound love, Latvia.

Good for the ‘gram

Get ready to fill your feed with every corner of Bonzoe Suites & Villas in Mykonos. Sit in a sunken sofa chill area and look out over the infinity pool to the Aegean Sea, mountains and blue skies. Each suite or villa here is totally unique and you can even pick a private pool. You can treat yourself to a massage or just lounge about on the elegant terrace. Walk down to the beach or get a taxi into town to hit the bars. Mykonos is a real picture itself, full of elegant white stone and blue-domed buildings, where you can pap your way through streets popular with celebs.

Super stylish

Sunsets look better from the infinity pool at Minos Ambassador All Suites And Spa. This hotel on the island of Crete in Greece is for adults only and features a stunning rooftop, complete with tiki-style bar, daybeds, loungers and endless views of the Aegean Sea. The rooms are neutral and chic for a relaxing feel, as are the indoor pool and spa centre. Treat yourself in the Turkish hammam, get a massage or soak in the sauna. You can hire bikes for a cute cycle into the city of Rethymno or most sites are walkable anyway – the beach is just down the road.

 Rooftop spaces

Get your own little slice of the city at Innside Madrid Gran Via. This hotel is all about its outdoor space. The building’s roof has been transformed into the most amazing al fresco lounge under fairy lights and cream awnings for a balance of sun and shade. Plants climb up the sides and section off a few cosy areas for some sunset drinks and late-night chats. In the heart of Madrid on Gran Via, you can pick out all the sights. You’re less than a 15-miniute walk to the Royal Palace, less than 10 to Plaza Mayor and just metres from two metro stations to get out and about.

Great value

Sneak a city break to Seville to stay at the two-star Hotel Dona Manuela in the old Jewish quarter. It’s a traditional guesthouse with both city and garden-view rooms that offer a glimpse of the Jardines de Murillo. This place is more than just somewhere to sleep, there’s also a roof terrace to relax with a morning coffee or play cards in the evening. Rent bikes, or you’re just a 10-minute walk from the Alcazar Palace, Seville Cathedral, Giralda and Torree del Oro. The beach is even closer and the bus to the airport stops just round the corner, so the location really is a perfect pick for a great price.

Adults only

Hotel Indigo Larnaca is the winning adults-only pick this month. It’s over in Larnaca, Cyprus and is perfectly positioned just minutes away from the city centre and the beach. One other convenient addition – an elegant wine bar and courtyard restaurant. Taste the tannins of selected fine wines with local dishes or, if it’s a cocktail you’re after, take to the pool. The rooftop is all about lounging by the water and watching out over those sea views. Rooms even come with their own balcony here, so the peace and quiet is on point.

Foodie hotspots

Right in the city’s Gothic Quarter, Ohla Barcelona is just a short walk from the famous Las Rambla street for the ultimate bar-hopping fix. Get yourself the best people-watching spot for a sangria and selection of Spanish small plates, or you might prefer to stay in when you hear this hotel’s restaurant, Caelis, has been awarded with a Michelin star. Romain Fornell is the head chef for all the culinary spaces here, and La Plassohla is the other top spot to take your tapas up a level. There’s also a rooftop bar, breakfast room and café, so stomachs will be well satisfied.

Family fun

We bet you didn’t think Bulgaria? Festa Pomorie Resort is in a popular seaside resort in the southeast with gorgeous sea views and a super easy public transport network to get the gang out and about. The Black Sea is pretty much visible from anywhere you look along this peninsula and the beach is six kilometres long, lined with bars and restaurants. At the hotel, there’s a huge outdoor pool, a large garden and entertainment for the whole family comes in the form of table tennis and a games room.
