Unexpected pre-authorisation of cost of room and unfriendly attitude at reception

After I spoke to reception in Spanish on my first evening to question the pre-authorisation of the cost of my entire 3-night room booking on top of the expected 150-euro deposit preauthorisation on my credit card, I received a letter from management the next day explaining that this was their policy. Great hotel

Brilliant hotel. Rooms were large and clean. Great facilities and hotel staff were amazing. A fantastic hotel which I would not think twice about recommending. I would stay again in a heartbeat.
Breakfast was good, only slight complaint would be that there were little cooked options. But overall great stay....

We stayed a week in a Deluxe room and loved it. Lobby is large, pretty, and comfortable, usually pretty active. Nice bar. Very pleasant staff and helpful. Most speak English quite well. Room service was outstanding (of course we always leave a nice tip on the pillow). Love the location, just off the La Rambla and three blocks from Placa Catalunya. A very good hotel perfectly central and yet very quiet, located in a modernized historical building, with a name also bearing historrical reference. Breakfast buffet superb, very kind and efficient staff. Room was vast bed was huge. A very, very pleasant stay indeed, highly recommended. ...

The location is great. Close to the market and an easy walk to upscale shopping. The room was clean. Nice rooftop area to chill.
