Holidays to Monaco are a knockout combo of top-class entertainment, pretty beaches and medieval streets.

Glamourous getaways

As the second-smallest country in the world, Monaco’s teeny in size, but that hasn’t stopped it from becoming a big name on the French Riviera. The jet-setting rich and famous descend on this place year after year for its glamourous casino, luxury shops and world-renowned events, like the Monaco Grand Prix. Swanky hotels and fine dining restaurants have popped up left, right and centre, and the marina’s almost always packed to the rafters with fancy yachts.

Beaches and boats

There’s plenty to do in Monaco that doesn’t involve splashing loads of cash. Take Larvotto Beach, for starters. It’s a pebbly number with oodles of space to throw down a towel and soak up some rays. And when you fancy stretching your legs, you can paddle in the sparkly waters of the Med, or toddle around the marina – where you’ll find stacks of luxury boats and super-sized yachts to gawp at.

Old town sights

The Monaco-Ville district – or The Rock – adds a historic page to Monaco’s book. It’s chock-a-block with buildings from a bygone era, like the Oceanographic Museum and St Nicholas Cathedral. The Prince’s Palace also has a plot in this part of town – swing by just before midday to catch the changing of the guards. And as you saunter around the rest of the medieval streets, you’ll pass Monégasque restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops by the dozen.
