Destination tourist taxes
Heads up – some cities and countries charge a tourist tax when you stay. It’s set by local governments to help fund their tourism industry and keep destinations running smoothly. Think well-maintained roads, clean beaches and support for local communities.
How much you pay depends on where you’re going, how long you’re staying and the type of place you’ve picked – boujie hotel? It might cost you a bit more. Some hotels might also add a resort fee on top, which you’ll pay when you get there.
We’ve dropped a handy list below of what to expect at each destination. Prices are based on the info we had as of 27/05/2025, but they can change, so it might be slightly different when you’re on holiday – make sure you check on the local government’s official website before you travel.
Most of these fees are paid in the local currency, but you can always use an online currency converter to check the costs in GBP.

Europe
Approx. €1 per person, per night for over 18s.
Salzburg – approx. €2.45 per person, per night for over 15s.
Vienna – up to €3.20 per person, per night for over 18s.
Bruges – approx. €3.75 per person, per night in all accommodation types for over 18s.
Brussels – approx. €5.00 per person, per night in hotels.
Fees in other towns and cities cost €0.90-5 per person, per night.
Approx. BGN 0.40-BGN 3 per person, per night, depending on the hotel’s star rating.
Dubrovnik – approx. €2.65 per person, per night April-September and approx. €1.85 per person, per night October-March.
Pula – approx. €1.60 per person, per night April-September and approx. €1.10 per person, per night October-March.
Split – approx. €2.50 per person, per night April-September and approx. €1.86 per person, per night October-March.
Zagreb – approx. €1.86 per person, per night for over 12s.

Budapest – approx. 1000 HUF per person, per night for max 6 nights and 4 people.
Bologna – approx. €2-5 per person, per night for over 14s, depending on the hotel rating.
Florence – approx. €1-5 per person, per night for over 10s, depending on the hotel rating.
Milan – approx. €3-5 per person, per night for over 18s, depending on the hotel rating.
Naples – approx. €1-€3 per person, per night for over 10s, depending on the hotel rating.
Pisa – approx. €1-€8 per person, per night for over 10s, depending on the hotel rating.

Venice – approx. €5 per person, per night. Between April and July, there’s an entrance fee to the historic centre between 8.30am and 4pm for day visitors who aren’t staying overnight. The fee is €5 if you book at least 4 days in advance and €10 if you book less than 3 days before your visit.
Vilnius – approx. €2 per person, per night for over 18s. Students and people with disabilities are exempt.
Mainland Spain
Alicante – approx. €2 per person, per night.
Barcelona – approx. €8 per person, per night during between June and September, and approx. €4 per person, per night between October and May.
Madrid – approx. €1.50-4 per person, per night, depending on the hotel rating.
Seville – approx. €2 per person, per night.
Valencia – approx. €2 per person, per night.
Balearic Islands
Majorca – approx. €2-4 per person, per night, depending on the hotel rating.
Other islands – approx. €0.28-4.30 per person, per night, depending on the hotel rating and month.
Canary Islands
Approx. €2-4 per person, per night, depending on the hotel rating.
Approx. €2-7 per person, per night between February and August, depending on the hotel rating.
Approx. €0.50 per person, per night for over 18s, up to a max of €5.
Amsterdam – 12.5% of the hotel cost.
Gdansk – approx. PLN 2.31 per person, per day.
The Algarve – approx. €2 per person, per night for over 13s up to a max of 7 days, between April and October.
Lisbon – approx. €4 per person, per night for over 13s up to a max of 7 days.
Porto – approx. €3 per person, per night for over 13s up to a max of 7 days.
