Definitely a serviceable option, although nothing special. On a return trip to Thessaloniki I'd probably try the Electra Palace instead, simply because it looked like it had rooms which had balconies and nice views out towards Aristotle Square and the sea. My biggest complaint at Excelsior was that my room had basically no view (and some pretty dodgy plumbing)....

We visited the hotel last Monday, but unfortunately, we only stayed for one night, as we were in transit. The hotel was spotless, very nicely located, with the staff very nice and professional. In the evening we decided to go to the restaurant for something very small, as we had a hearty lunch and then our experience got even better. This is rightly lauded as a good hotel and we had a lovely stay there, but it didnt quite make the status of great for me.
The room we had was small (23) and not particularly quiet, though it must be said that everything within worked well and the bed was very comfortable. Service was generally good, particularly at breakfast. The selection at breakfast was good but somewhat repetitive after 5 days so perhaps some...

Starting the day with my choice from their amazing breakfast offer is reason alone for staying at the Excelsior quite apart from ever so helpful, reliable and courteous staff at every level. I try and stay there at the start and finish of each of my regular summer visits to Greece...
