For an authentically Greek experience, holidays to Pefkos deliver sunshine, sandy beaches and crystal-clear seas by the bucketload.

Beyond the pines

Pefkos perches on Rhodes' eastern coast. Named for the lush pine trees that sit behind its sandy beach, this former fishing village has an old-fashioned Greek feel. It's set on a sleepy bay with calm turquoise waters, yet a steady increase in tourism has recently given rise to a few buzzing bars and restaurants.

Gold-star sands

The pride and joy of this little resort is its Blue Flag award-winning beach. Lined with soft, golden sand, it has a crop of rocky coves at the far end – perfect for snorkelling in the clear sea. Watersports like windsurfing and kite-surfing can be found farther up at the north end.

Coastal cruising

For a memorable ocean adventure, take a glass-bottomed boat up the coast to Lindos. Boats leave Pefkos from a jetty at the end of aptly named Boat Trip Road. Once in Lindos, you can trek to reach the hilltop ruins of the acropolis for panoramic views of the Aegean Sea.

Daytripping

Pefkos' central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the island. The island's historic capital is just an hour's drive to the north and well worth the visit. With ancient monuments, a trove of artisan shops and quaint tavernas in the Medieval old town, it's sure to make an impression.
