Best time to go to India

Being such a big country, the weather in different parts of India can be as varied as night and day. Down in Goa, the temperatures stay beach-perfect all year, with averages ranging from 25°C to 30°C. If you want to avoid the rain, the best time to visit is during the UK’s winter and spring. From June to September, this part of India gets drenched with monsoon rains.

Passports and Visas

You must buy a visa before travelling to India. Eligible UK passport holders can apply for an e-Tourist Visa, you can apply through our visa and travel authorisation partner – Sherpa. If you’re not eligible, you’ll need to apply for a ‘Regular Paper’ visa online and need to make an appointment to visit an ‘Indian Mission/Office’ in the UK as part of the application process. These offices are located in Birmingham, Edinburgh and London.

Don't forget to arrange your travel money and insurance before you go.

Health and safety

You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover you while you’re away. It’s a good idea to visit your doctor a month or so before you travel for advice on vaccinations. For the latest health and safety information, visit www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/india/health
