I booked with lastminute and was pleasantly surprised. I do not understand people moaning about the irony railings and old lift. It's authentic not some boring gutted building like everything else in the world. Please keep the soviet style lift my friend and I loved it. It's a part of history now.

This is a charming, quirky hotel. Built in 1904, it was originally owned by a brewer then became a restaurant, now it is a hotel. Part of the hotel does not have a lift, so if you have mobility issues let them know in advance of your arrival.
My room was not large but it was clean and warm with a shower in the bathroom. Free wi-fi and a flat screen television with English, German, French and Italian channels availab...

On September 22, 2025, the taxi driver who brought us from the airport showed us the entrance to the City Hotel Matyas, a heavy rusty iron door. It also had a tasteless sign very high up, which you dont see at first glance. Wont turn the air conditioning on unless it's June we were told even though temperature was 29 degree celsius during the day, reception said to open the windows but you can hear the traffic all night so we couldn't do that so had uncomfortable nights sweating (we were on ground floor so maybe won't be too bad in the upper floor). The outside of the building is impressive, lovely old doorways and windows etc. The location is great for sightseeing etc
The bed was comfy and the room was clean. However the interior of the hotel needs some renovation.
