If there are two things a city break to Cannes can guarantee, it’s a lot of glitz and a whole load of glamour.

Hollywood vibes

Cannes sits on the French Riviera, and it’s known as Beverly Hills’ sister city – that’s probably something to do with its Hollywood-style credentials. Book a visit in May, and you can time your trip to coincide with the Cannes Film Festival – one of the biggest events in the film industry’s calendar. Expect a buzzing atmosphere, plus plenty of opportunities to do some celebrity spotting. Whenever you book a stay, though, you’ll find that Cannes is full to the brim with swanky restaurants, chic bars and luxury shopping.

Take a trip to Ile Sainte Marguerite

Fancy stepping back in time? A visit to Isle Sainte Marguerite is just the ticket. This island sits just off the coast of Cannes, and it has a chequered past. Back in the 17th century, it housed the mysterious prisoner, the ‘Man in the Iron Mask’. Today, that same building is a marine museum, the Royal Musee de la Mer, displaying artifacts recovered from nearby Roman Moorish shipwrecks.
