Babymoon
noun
A relaxing or romantic holiday for parents-to-be before their child arrives.
Ummm, congratulations!? Maybe you’re preggers yourself or your surrogate is, or maybe you’ve just been approved as adoptive parent/s. Either way, you’re only about to raise a whole new human being ? There’s so much to celebrate and while there’s a lot to prep and organise for your little one’s arrival, this moment doesn’t come around again. The excitement, the anticipation… Babymoons are designed for you to take it all in and make this time extra special.
If you’re expecting with your partner, this is probably the last time the two of you can spend some proper quality time together (for a little while anyway…) Or, if you’re a single parent, get your best mates involved or soak up that final sweet taste of solo travel before your new bestie starts tagging along.
A bit of serious chat first… Before you head off on your babymoon, it’s important to keep your doctor in the loop and clear your travel plans with them, especially if you’re at a higher medical risk during pregnancy. Make sure you check out any travel advice for your destination so you’re in the loop about things like Zika virus outbreaks (mainly spread by mosquitos). Plus, ensure that you’re up to date with relevant vaccinations, have valid travel insurance and have checked out the medical facilities in your resort. Check out our top tips for flying when you’re pregnant, too.
Some pregnant women prefer not to travel in their first trimester if their nausea is particularly bad, but it’s all just personal preference and everyone feels different. However, airlines may also have restrictions on how late into your pregnancy you’re allowed to fly. Most won’t allow passengers over 35 weeks’ pregnant and some require a medical certificate from your doctor or midwife after around 28 weeks. Check with your airline – any regulations are only in place to provide the best safety and support to you and your baby.
Right – now that you’re in the know about this pre-baby travel trend, here are our top relaxing babymoon destinations…

Majorca
If you don’t want to spend too much time stuck on a plane or on the road, pick a destination that’s just a short flight away to maximise your time. Flights to Majorca take just two and a half hours, and the island’s only small, so you can count on short transfers to your hotel, too. Majorca’s capital, Palma, packs in historic sights, museums and a fancy cathedral that has a Blue Flag beach just behind it, so you can pick between sightseeing and more chilled beach days.
When it comes to deciding where to stay, there’s so much choice in Majorca depending on what facilities you’re after. We love the Grupotel Picafort Beach hotel, which has a prime spot on Can Picafort’s sandy beachfront. There’s a large pool on the terrace with loungers and sea views, plus a spa with a sauna. The restaurant is buffet style, with a mix of themed nights and cooking stations, or you can wander into the nearby village for extra restaurant options, plus further shops and bars.

Morocco
Morocco ticks a lot of babymoon boxes. First up, it boasts year-round sunshine, so it’s a great option regardless of when your due date is. Plus, it lines up plenty of boujie hotels at budget-friendly prices and it’s famous for a diverse mix of food, so you can deffo satisfy any cravings. It’s also in the same time zone as the UK for half the year, so you can say goodbye to jetlag and sleepless nights – might be a few of those to come ?
Head to Agadir to make the most of its sweeping golden-sand coastline and souvenir-filled souks. Hotel-wise, we’re fans of the Riu Palace Tikida Agadir, which has its own private beach area, plus two à la carte restaurants and a huge swimming pool surrounded by plush daybeds. There’s also a spa and wellness centre where you can book spa treatments – just the thing to help you relax and indulge in a bit of me-time.

Tenerife
The largest of the Canary Islands is a top pick for babymoon breaks, thanks to its always-sunny weather, peaceful resorts and wide choice of All Inclusive hotels. Pick Puerto de Santiago on the west coast of the island if you’re after a secluded spot – this place lines up black-sand beaches, natural cliffside pools and laidback fishing villages, where you can take in some local culture.
Pick the luxury clifftop Hotel Barcelo Santiago as your base and you’ll be treated to stunning views while you wine (or non-alcoholic alternative) and dine. Look one way and you’ll see the Atlantic Ocean and the neighbouring island of La Gomera. Glance to the other and you’ll see the cliffs of Los Gigantes. This is all going on, alongside a buffet restaurant, an à la carte spot and a tapas bar. Plus, a luxury spa with multiple treatment rooms means you can settle in for a pampering sesh.

Sicily
This island sits off the toe of Italy’s mainland and has a winning mix of cultural sights and chilled beaches. It also goes without saying, there’s the Sicilian food… You can have as much pizza, pasta, arancini and gelato as your pregnancy – or hungry parent-to-be – cravings require during your babymoon.
Hotel-wise, Hotel Caesar Palace is in a prime spot with a rooftop solarium giving epic views of Mount Etna. It also boasts its own private beach – with a free shuttle bus from the hotel – plus a huge pool. You can also enjoy the weekly Sicilian-themed night with local food and live folk music.

Turkey
With coastlines across the Black Sea, the Aegean and the Mediterranean, you’re deffo not short of beautiful beaches in Turkey. Even better, many of them have Blue Flag status, so we’re talking seriously celebration-worthy getaways. The Dalaman area on the south-west coast – known as the Turquoise Coast – offers stunning views over that crystal-clear water.
The Beachfront hotel is right on the water (weird, right?), plus it’s adults only, with a chic, minimalist vibe for a real zen getaway. The beachfront restaurant offers local and international food with live music in the summer months.
If you’re ready to book your babymoon holiday, who says you can’t take inspo from our honeymoon picks, too? No life partner needed… It’s still all about big gestures and celebrating.
