The pool scene takes in 2 main pools – 1 of which is heated – plus a good-sized one for kids. You can dine in the buffet restaurant or try the gourmet place. Evenings see a mix of entertainment, including tribute acts.

Summer holiday

The minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome, the duplex we stayed in was great and cleaned everyday we couldn't have faulted it. There was plenty to eat and something for everyone our daughter is a fussy eater but she never went hungry.More

Relaxing holiday

We travelled to Tenerife on 1st September for a 2 week holiday. The location of the hotel is about 15 minutes walk downhill from the beaches at both Playa de las Americas and Los Christianos. I would recommend a bus or taxi to return to the hotel. We did not find this a problem as we do not tend to sit on the beach. The hotel was originally all self-catering so the rooms are mainly apartments with bedroom, bathroom and lounge with kitchenette, all have balconies. Ours was on the road side of the hotel but we did not find it noisy. We were a little worried before we went by the comments about lukewarm food. Actually, we found that the food was hot when you filled your plates but the plates were nearly always cold and the air-conditioning was set to a temperature which also cooled the food quickly. However, there was plenty of variety with different dishes on offer each night, so plenty of choice. We only had one problem which was that about a week into our holiday there was a horrible smell in the apartment. We called reception who said that it was probably the air-conditioning and they would report it, but nothing was done. This continued for 3 days with the smell being so bad on the third night that we had to open all the windows and doors! At this point we spoke to Natalie, the Thomson rep, who sorted things out with the hotel and we were moved to another apartment the same day. Top marks to Thomson and a lesson to us to go straight to the rep. when the hotel staff ignore you! The hotel did at least refund us the money we had paid for the safe and allowed us to keep our room until the afternoon on the day we left.More

Perfect Resort Getaway

This hotel was easily standards and service-wise, one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in! Firstly our room (more like mini-suite) was large, clean, well decorated with kitchenette and in a good state of repair. The air-con was great, not so strong as you wake up with air-con cold in the morning, but certainly cool enough to allow an easy nights sleep. We unfortunately had a room which faced the road (pool and golf-course views being in high demand), but this really wasn't a down-side as it was quiet and gets the best of the afternoon sun. The hotel is set back from Play de las Americas by about a 10 minute walk, but this actually ends up in the hotels favour as it's just far enough away from the noise generated by the throngs of drinkers and clubbers. It's a brilliantly designed complex with it's beauty all being concentrated on the courtyard feel around it's pool and outdoor communal areas. Both pools and the paddler are extremely well proportioned and the pool bar (which goes from 10 in the morning), will keep you well stocked with drinks and snacks as you so wish. But if you can force yourself - the restaurant is by far this hotels most impressive attractions. Considering how many people it caters for, 3 times a day, the choice and the standard of cuisine is staggering (including theme nights). I honestly don't think I ate a single carb whilst I was there - everything was so fresh. And finally it has to be said - this hotels greatest achievement is in it's staff. Friendly, courteous and very efficient. They were helpful with several recommendations for the local area, went above and beyond to help us investigate - things to do and when we did have a concern regarding our room (at 9.45 on the first night), had a maintenance man there within 15 minutes to rectify it. Thats service they'd be proud of in Singapore! I give an especial shout out to Caralina and Vicky on the front desk, the Matre De' of the restaurant (who never seems to have a day off) and Natalie out Thompson/First Choice/Whatever else they're called tour rep who was stunning in organising our trips and excursions. Tell the staff what you're trying to achieve and chances are they'll be able to help you. In short - you can opt for somewhere more boutique, somewhere more basic, somewhere 5 star (although I'm not quite sure how this isn't). But those that do opt for the Marylanza shan't be disappointed. A great place to explore from or just sit by the pool. My comments - please don't think them criticisms;- 1) Everyone needs the safe when they come to stay and lots of other hotels offer this free, might I suggest just a one off initial set-up charge. 2) Your food was wonderful, but some of the breakfast items (ie. pancakes) failed to stay warm enough after having been cooked and left out. 3) Internet in the rooms was still a bit hit and miss (we were in A216). Extra tips Have 5 Euros ,for a deposit for the ping pong gear/pool stuff, or to get a token to do washing. Supermarket is a two minute walk away Centro Commercial Parque Santiago 6. A complete and utter travesty!

Where do I begin? Thomson portray this hotel as a Platinum 4* establishment and I can honestly say that it is absolutely no where near this standard. I stayed here with my nan (who is disabled) from the 18th-26th September as our usual hotel the Arona Gran was being refurbished. From the word go we were met with difficulty regarding my nan's mobility scooter (which we had hired from Tenerife itself); upon arrival we were told we couldn't take it to the room nor could we take it into the restaurant. As you can imagine we then struggled to manage until a member of staff from the company we had hired the scooter from actually spoke to the hotel itself. If it had not been for him, we would have been stuck for the duration of the week, as I found certain members of reception staff to be very reluctant to help. One of the main reasons we travel to Tenerife is purely because of the accessibility for the disabled, nevertheless we were appalled by the attitude of some of the staff towards my nan and her disability aids. Not only did we receive hostility from the reception and restaurant staff, but the bar staff were unwilling to bring drinks to the table when asked, (if my nan wanted to order a drink herself from the bar she could not carry the drinks due to being in the mobility scooter) and they actually TOLD US OFF for not putting a drink on the table when she could not reach it. One final point concerning the reception staff; when it came to checking out from the hotel my nan and I had a large amount of luggage to carry downstairs, i.e. 3 disability aids, 2 large suitcases and the mobility scooter itself. When I asked the staff on the reception a few days prior to this, they were adamant that I would just have to manage myself. A day or so later, my nan asked someone else, who then said we could just ring down when we were ready and they would send a member of staff up to help. Following this, I rang down expecting them to send somebody up and I was once again told that I would have to manage myself. I was not impressed by this whatsoever, and I thought to myself that if my nan had been travelling alone, how on earth would she have managed? Secondly, if you are a keen drinker the hotel will suit you fine. Unfortunately I cannot drink for medical reasons and found the non alcoholic alternatives to be very poor. The only non alcoholic mocktail on the list is the San Fransisco which after about 3 days becomes more than tiresome thus I was pretty much restricted to water for the week. Other drinks such as fresh juices or cordial were again non existent, fizzy drinks are on tap around the bar area but if you can't drink those you're pretty much out of luck. More importantly the food hygiene is without a doubt, shocking!! The pool bar has a range of fast food delights which were REPLETE with flies. The pizzas were covered in swarms of flies, so obviously we avoided this.The staff serving the pizzas seem to be oblivious and make NO effort to get rid of them. In the restaurant itself the fruit surrounding the chocolate fountain and in a separate part of the buffet was again covered in flies. I found this totally off putting and unacceptable. On 2 occasions in the restaurant I found fluffy mould on my bread and the fish was not cooked properly. The second restaurant; the restaurant Kantia was marginally better because of the wonderful waitress who served us but once again the food was a let down as there was NO choice. Thirdly, if you don't particularly like noise this hotel is not for you. Every day by the pool they have LOUD club music playing and I found this to be distracting as I could not relax with a book by the pool and enjoy the peace/sunshine. When the music from the cd player wasn't on, the grim music from the spinning classes in the gym was booming out of the windows. I found this intolerable after a 30 minutes by the pool and had to retreat back to the room. The music in the restaurant was also terribly loud one evening and as I had a migraine I politely asked the manager to turn it down slightly; my attempt was futile as nothing was done about the din! The entertainment was amateur and truly awful, I repeat not of 4* platinum quality. This included the music played after dinner by the pool. The only positive was the size of the room and the fact it was cleaned every day, aside from this the beds were terribly hard and I'm not sure who 'Marylanza' are actually catering towards as there is a huge kitchen but if you are all inclusive there really is no need for this. There was no mini bar in the room, so when we arrived late at night, we were disappointed to find only one small bottle of water in the fridge. Finally, the surrounding area is okay although a walk down to the front becomes tiring when you know you'll have to walk back up the hill to the hotel in the heat. Furthermore, be aware of the supermarket across the road. An English man was robbed there during our stay and as I speak a little Spanish I had to translate as the supermarket staff did nothing to help. Overall if you want a week filled with noise, rude staff and stale food I would recommend the Hotel Marylanza. This is definitely not a hotel I would return to, whether I had a disabled companion or not. The Arona Gran is light years ahead of this hotel and cheaper!!! If you want a calming, peaceful break away in Tenerife I would strongly suggest a visit there instead, once their refurbishments have been completed. Let me assure you the Hotel Marylanza is an utter let down!!!More

Just returned from the Marylanza

Just returned from a two week holiday, first of all the hotel to us seemed strange in the layout with a strange feel about it, there is something different about the hotel from what were used too and we can't put our finger on it and for that reason the hotel was difficult to judge but what we honestly found is below. The staff are excellent nothing is a problem, i would have said the hotel is quite clean but we did come across a few cockroaches during our stay, the food is ok but a bit repetitive and the rooms are cleaned every day. Few minor faults such as bottled water from the bars are not available in the all inclusive package you have to pay for them although its available in the dining hall why ?? we stayed in May at the Riu Buena Vista in Playa Paraiso just up the coast where everything is included in the all inclusive package including bottled water as much as you want at any time. The pools are good with the exception of the sunbeds they are actually touching each other with no or very little room to move them around for a bit of personal space during your eight hours by the pool, this is a big problem when your neighbours are smoking all day long and have screeming noisy kids. The pool activities go on for far too long and it takes up all of the green pool you need to stop this guys as its restricting the use of the pool to others, the walking time to Las Americas and Los Christianos that the reps suggest we feel is a little ambitious we reckon its much more than the fifteen minutes that they suggest, the only chance of getting a drink after 11pm is the disco bar which just looks and feels like a seedy night club but on an amateur scale and the entertainment is worse but they do their best. Seating throughout the hotel is uncomfortable with the exception of a few chairs in the reception area but these soon get snapped up. we requested a golf course room before we came and on arrival we found it was granted without the extra surcharge that's normally paid for this room the view from the room was excellent looking across the course to the mountains and late at night a few drinks on the balcony listening to the wildlife was a joy. The air conditioning in the room was hit and miss more miss than hit my wife became a little ill through it as had other guests we spoke to, maybe the management should consider the large pool being adults only. Would we return to the Marylanza ? probably not.More
