Climb to the crown of the Statue of Liberty

Standing at the gateway to New York harbour, this iconic statue was the first glimpse of America for 12 million people who sailed here back in the 19th and 20th centuries. Now, you can climb inside the towering figure – all the way up to her crown. It involves a 154-step spiral staircase to the top, but it’s worth it for the views. On the way back, you can hop off at Ellis Island to learn more about the immigrant experience. The museum here is crammed with personal documents, clothes and photographs of the homelands and loved ones they left behind.
