Amalia Hotel

I spent a week at Hotel Amalia back in early August with my mother who is in her sixties, and we still talk now about what a wonderful time we had. Shame on those who have written negative reviews based on the facilities! The facilities are not 4/5 star because it is not a 4/5 star hotel! The most magnificent aspect of this hotel is the people! We found the people of Corfu to be the most beautiful, warm and inviting people and those working at the Amalia were the most wonderful of all. If you want a gleaming bathroom suite and 5* amenities by all means go to the Ikos Hotel down the road and pay for it! However if you want to leave your holiday feeling like you have spent a week with not just paid staff, but with friends, then visit the Amalia. Vikki and Argy at the pool bar, Katerina and Andreas in the dining room made sure me and mum had the most memorable holiday. Also we would highly recommend visiting the talented therapists at their sister Hotel Magna Graecia Spa across the road. Thank you Hotel Amalia, we will be back, from Poppy & Sarah

Stayed 7 days all inclusive. Staff are lovely & always helpful. Rooms are cleaned daily & hotel was clean. A good variety of food served daily. Pool area and staff an asset to hotel. Will be back again. Thanks to all at the Amalia.

Just returned from a week at the Amalia hotel, Dassia. Dassia, a once thriving little village is now a run down area that needs a good scrub and lots of TLC. This is especially true of the area around the hotel. The locals seem to have lost pride in the area and there are numorous closed premises and dirty streets. (Take a short trip to Ipsos and see the difference that a small community can do. It is clean, tidy and has a bit of life to it.) The road is the busy road to the north of the island and you sometimes take your life in your hands trying to cross it. The hotel itself seemed ok at first glance. The receptionist greeted us and showed us to our rooms in the basement. These were very recently refurbished and looked lovely. However, when you walk down the stairs to them the overwhelming smell of drains hits you. The smell is not as bad in the room itself but is still noticable and after one night we asked to change to a room upstairs. We were told that there would not be one available until the next day at mid-day but it was worth the wait as the replacement room was twice the size, clean and odour free, and also had a balcony. The restaurant..... is compact with all the tables crammed together. The staff work hard to accommodate you and get you seated especially Kattarina who deserves a special mention as she works tirelessly. The food..... we have been spoilt in recent years by going to a Labranda resort in Fuerteventura so perhaps we were expecting something better than what we were given at the Amalia. The food was never piping hot. It was poorly presented on hot plates and was extremely samey. The cuts of meat were of a low standard and was really not what we have come to expect from an all inclusive resort. You are allowed tea and coffee from the machine after your breakfast but NOT after your lunch or evening meal, when the machine is switched off so you are forced to go to the pool bar for luke warm one in a paper cup. For your sweet you have the choice of jelly and blancmange, little assorted cakes, larger homemade custard cakes or fruit. The pool area.... this is run by Vikki who does a very good job. She has with her another girl who is known as 'baywatch'. Now, we were there for a week and despite asking around and watching her, I am still at a loss as to what contribution she actually makes to the running of the hotel. At night the barman plays his own choice of music which one night was three hours of Santana, other nights we were treated to such delights at Pink Floyd all night or some Garage music which was very hard to listen to. The pool area itself was a disgrace. (See pictures below) the area inder the sun beds was dirty and had clearly not been cleaned for a long time, I would estimate the start of the season..? There wasca band aid/plaster under one sunbed that had clearly been there for ages. There was a dirty, grimy, greasy scum mark around the entire circumference of the pool that againg hadnt been cleaned for a very long time. All in all this hotel is kept going by the hard work of the staff but with some basic support and investment from the management could be so, so much better. By all means go and try this hotel for yourself but this is an honest review from the long seven days we spent there. And I for one will not be returning anytime soon.
