Villa Pina Hotel

Stayed here for a week. We stayed half board which we don’t usually do. On the whole it’s a lovely hotel run by brother and sister. We had a lovely room above the restaurant. It was modern and had stunning views of the sea and the island of Capri from our balcony. Also amazing sunsets. The towels and bed linen were changed daily and the room cleaned. On this level there is a lovely full length terrace where you can sit and relax. On the top of the building is a full length terrace with tables and chairs and sunbeds and a hot tub. Breakfast was taken in the large beautiful dining room and had everything you could want (except for hot food) - but you are in Italy. The hotel is just a ten minute local bus ride from Sorrento (€1.60 each way). The evening meal was served between 7-8pm which is too early for us but they are quite flexible. The food, while definitely not Michelin, was mostly good with a choice of five starters, 5 mains and varied deserts, sometimes a choice of two and sometimes a selection from a trolley which was wonderful. House wine is €15 a bottle. Some Tui customers complained that they were treated as second rate. However, the restaurant is open to all and gets a lot of,Italians in for the a la carte menu. We only had one bad night but, in fairness to the owners, they did have two big parties in and were rushed off their feet. Overall it was lovely - the staff were polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We arrived at just after midnight due to a flight delay but were greeted by the owner and offered food. Would we go back? Yes if we wanted to see more of the area as it’s a good base. In hotter weather a swimming pool would be good but in September although we had good weather, it wasn’t a problem.

This hotel was great. We paid a little extra to have a room with a sea view and what a view it was. We had a view of Capri to our left, Ischa in front and Vesuvius to our right which was fabulous. The room was very clean and simply decorated and the bed and pillows were comfortable too. The food is very good and well presented. We had breakfast and evening meal included. Breakfast offered fruit, boiled eggs, tomatoes, meats and cheese plus fruit and croissants that were fresh and delicious. The jug of coffee was also good. Evening meal was three courses and although portions are smaller than we usually eat, the quality more than made up for this. Plenty of choice catering for most pallets. The hotel is a little way out from Sorrento but the buses are frequent and reasonable cost. A few metres down the main road is a 10 min walk to a local beach and resort, here we found 3 restaurants and a bar very fairly priced and the food was good too. The family running the hotel were polite and courteous and provided a very good service. For the price paid I would say this is excellent value for money. The rooms are rustic and simple but it is so worth paying extra for the sea view which is just beautiful. We booked this holiday through Jet 2 and were very happy with all aspects. Although within a couple of KM’s of Sorrento the road has no pavements and walking in to the town is a little dangerous. We did see people walking in but we wouldn’t recommend it.
