Salgados Palm Village

Just back from Salgados Palm Village, family of 5 from us oldies to our 3 year old granddaughter. We had a 1 bedroom suite and a 2 bedroom, very large rooms, 3 bathrooms in the 2 bedroom suite, beds very comfortable and balconies very large and pleasing. Rooms cleaned every day and towels changed if left on shower floor. Food; was great, something for everyone anytime of the day (even the fussy little one). So much choice and the pizza is amazing. Yes it can get repetitive but that's all-inclusive for you, no complaints from us. Pools; plenty to choose from but yes if not down at the pool for 8am you can struggle to find a spare sunbed (time of year). The only downside about the pools, not cleaned on a regular basis, spoke to the TUI rep about this (she wasn't interested). Spoke to reception the day after, pools started to be cleaned but unfortunately the one we stayed around wasn't cleaned until the day we left. Management you really need to look into cleaning the pools every night (my concern was the little one becoming ill with unclean pools). Drinks; yes you drink out of plastic cups whether it be juice,beer,wine or sangria, this didn't bother us (it doesn't taste any different). There are a lot of children there and we don't need any accidents form glass (safety first). Entertainment; we didn't go to the children's club so can't comment on them. The evening entertainment was enjoyable, solo artist on guitar(very good), bingo, dancers and karaoke. Overall we had a fabulous holiday and met some wonderful people. We would return to this hotel.

Returned today from Salgados Palm Village with my wife and 3 children (18, 16 & 12), and mixed feelings with holiday. The main positive for us was a good large apartment. Other positives nice spacious site, clean, pools and free train to beach. The negatives for us were the restaurants (see below), found most bar staff unfriendly (suggest you teach your staff to smile), little organised activities for teens, and possibly location as not close to anywhere and you need to organise transport to go anywhere. Restaurants - food was reasonable and fairly typical all inclusive. However found restaurants over crowded and very much they had a canteen feeling. All restaurants had a big screen playing music videos but sound not loud enough to hear but loud enough to be annoying. No one appeared to be in overall charge of each restaurant to ensure that the guests were being looked after e.g.plates being cleared and ice kept in bucket for drinks, which was often not the case. Just felt noisy, chaotic and poorly managed. Also found it difficult to get booked into chosen restaurant for evening meal. If you didn't (which was 5 out if 7 for us), you were then relegated to the grill restaurant which is a bit of a shed cladded on the inside with chipboard. However the main issue was that it appeared to us that this was definitely the last choice restaurant and very little effort was made for guests in this restaurant. So for example on our last night, instead of the normal plastic wine glass, there was only large beaker type glasses available. I asked staff for a wine glass but was given the old shrug of the shoulders. There was then no spoons for desert. My daughter and myself went up to ask staff. The first guy never returned. We then spoke to a more senior person. He then went to another restaurant and returned with one spoon. He then went back and eventually returned with 2 spoons. This whole episode took between 5 - 10 minutes while we stood and waited. And no fruit juice (fresh or long life) at breakfast time - just the horrible artificial stuff - perhaps i'm expecting too much but for a 4 star Tui platinum! The restaurant is the main reason I have given 3 stars. I realise it is not easy to cater on this scale but in my opinion there is a lot of room for improvement. Finally just one comment on sunbeds and this is probably applicable to most hotels. Please either have a proper no reservation policy and enforce it, or don't bother. As a family we were never able to find sunbeds, and out of principle I refuse to join in and put towels out early morning. Luckily we brought a picnic blanket which we would put down on the grass along with our towels, and as the day would progress we would possibly pick up a couple of sunbeds . However, the most annoying thing is that every day there are loads of sunbeds sitting with towels and not being used. The day before we came home, we sat on the grass majority of the day and witnessed a man coming out to his sunbed for the first time at 4.45pm. Shame on all hotels every where for not getting on top if this issue. Yes you've got the signs up but you do nothing else! Although frustrations as above, overall did not detract too much from our holiday. However, probably if we'd paid full cost ( we paid £700 for flights + hotel which was quoted as 40% reduction by Tui and I think towards lower end for an all inclusive for this time of year), we may have felt differently.

I recently stayed at this hotel & I can honestly say my family and I are very disappointed with our stay. Although the hotel grounds and rooms were clean & spacious the overall facilities weren’t great at all. The food was very repetitive with the same food every night and lunch and there was very little variety. There wasn’t anything to do for families with children over the age of 10. The evening entertainment was average to say the least and we were back in the room by 21.30 each night
