Vik San Antonio Hotel - All Inclusive

The VIK Hotel San Antonio was ideally situated for us. We were able to walk in safety to Arricife in one direction and to the old town in the other. We also cycled in safety to Costa Tequise. The hotel is a lovely place, it's always clean & the staff are friendly & obliging. I was a bit concerned in the first couple of days as I have to have shade, but this wasn't really an issue. There are plenty of sun loungers around the pool (heated) which is adjacent to the (public) beach. There is a good selection of food for every meal, although sometimes it wasn't particularly hot, however was easily rectified by the microwave oven at the food counter. The initial entertainment (up to 10pm) was very good but we never stayed for the main entertainment from 10pm. We were AI and did not have similar problems as other reviewers. We enjoyed our stay and would certainly return another time. In the last few days of our holiday, we came under the restrictions in place because of the coronavirus, but the staff remained friendly & helpful throughout the difficulties, which, although confined to our room for a couple of days was merely inconvenient, it was no great problem.

Thank you to all the staff in the san Antonio, we had a fabulous week and enjoyed every minute of our recent stay. The food as always was exceptional, freshly prepared with loads of variety. All staff were helpful, friendly and highly efficient. The hotel may be a little old fashioned but its spotlessly clean and I look forward to returning again next year.

The Vik San Antonio hotel is situated about half way along the promenade of Puerto del Carmen with Playa de los Pocillos and Playa de Matagorda to the east, Playa Grande and Playa Chica to the west. So it was a nice walk almost to the airport one way and to the harbour/old town the other. Reception staff were all extremely polite with a varying level of knowledge. We stayed in a double room with a full sea view and a balcony. The room was more than adequate and was well lit. Comfortable bed, two chairs, small table, dressing table, wardrobe and a/c. There was also a safe, for which there is usually a charge – I have no idea why there is charge. If the room has a safe, it costs nothing to run! There was a locked fridge/mini-bar; even if you only wish to use the fridge for your own items, there is a charge. Again, why charge when the fridge is there already?! The TV has a few English-speaking channels. There are no modern USB charging sockets, so bring a distribution block and chargers. Only two sockets in the room; one in the bathroom. The bathroom was compact – shown by the reduced width of the door. All fine within – large mirror and well lit. No shaving/makeup mirror. Good hair dryer fixed to the wall – coiled lead restricted its use. The over-bath shower was good. The room was excellently cleaned every day – absolutely no problems there. Our arrival was delayed due to the calima sand storm, so the receptionist told us that we were getting a room upgrade to a refurbished room. If that was the case, the other rooms must be really run down. Our room was fine, not recently refurbished! Best described as ‘tired’ and could do with a make-over. In fact the entire hotel, with the exception of reception, could use it. Everything worked well, just not modern. Our accommodation was half-board. Breakfast was quite good – even the Americano out of the coffee machine! All the usual types of foods including omelettes to order. All food/drink was self-service. Dinner was another array of self-service foods. As much and as often as wished. The downside here was the quality, which varied from fair to poor. If you can tolerate all the walking to and from the counters, then it is fine. In a four star hotel, I like to be served. There were plenty of waiters hovering around – two duties: to sell you drink and to snatch your plate away as soon as it appeared that you had cleared a plate. Don’t try to ask a question about the food! There are steps to encounter accessing the restaurant or accessing the food counters, as far as we could see. Open to correction on this, but we could not see how a wheel chair could operate or how a person with difficulty negotiation steps could manage. Live music every evening in the lounge. After four days, we came across the hotel’s information board. A pity that it wasn’t pointed out on our arrival. On information – no useful hotel/resort information is available in the room. On staff generally, there was a lack of 1:1 contact/communication. This didn’t cause any particular issue, but its absence was obvious. The pool was a very pleasant area with plenty of sun-beds. There was a bar area beside the pool and direct access to the beach. The sand on this little beach isn’t a pure, white sand. Swimming in the sea could be a problem, as there were rocks the whole way along the water’s edge adjacent to the hotel.
