If the perfect white wedding was a destination, it would be Santorini. The whole Greek island got the memo with whitewashed buildings and those iconic, blue-domed churches you’ve already seen all over your Insta feed. Villages like Oia and Imerovigli set the scene for romantic walks straight out of a storybook and because they’re sat on the east coast, gorgeous sunset evenings are standard.
Santorini is known for its unreal sunset scenes and there aren’t many better settings than golden hour to capture some glowing pics of your first official getaway together as a married couple. The island’s volcanic landscape is super unique, too, with black-sand beaches, coastal hiking trails and hot springs. To break up those much-loved lazy days by the pool, why not book an experience, like a boat trip to take a dip in the mineral-rich waters of Palea Kameni? The volcanic soil here is perfect for producing acidic and full-bodied wines, so a little tasting is a must. There’s even a Pompeii-style ancient settlement that you can visit for a bit of history, too.
In terms of where to stay, there are so many spots you could pick – from more central and well-connected stays, like Thira, to those lesser-known, quieter parts. Ultimately, the island’s size means you can get around to see all the sites and sides of its coastline easily, and public transport is great. So, it’s all about your style of hotel and budget, really. Oia is the Greece poster child and is famous for its boujie cave hotels. They’re tucked into the cliffside and usually come with private pools and your own slice of those sea views. Imerovigli is known as the ‘Balcony to the Aegean’, so it’s definitely on par with Oia for sunset scenes but is often less pricey if you’re feeling stretched from the big day. Go for your own private apartment if you fancy your own space – some still have a big, shared pool to take advantage of. Or, how about going All Inclusive in a modern resort?

Santorini Honeymoon FAQs
The best time for a honeymoon in Santorini is between April and May and September and October. The temperatures are warm without being uncomfortable, and you’ll swerve most of the summer crowds, too.
It depends on how much you want to do. Around five nights is enough time to fit in all the classic experiences like hiking in Oia, sunset cruises and wine tours. If you like a few chilled days to break up the busier ones, a week is a good amount of time to go.
Sunset Taverna in Ammoudi Bay does the freshest seafood, but you’ll need to book a few months ahead – it’s popular for a reason. If it’s caldera views you’re after, Ambrosia in Oia and Lauda in Imerovigli will have the sparks flying left, right and centre. Or, keep it intimate with a private chef in your villa – you can hire one for about £200 a night.
