Tanzania sits on the eastern coast of Africa, just south of Uganda and Kenya. It's got a long stretch of coast facing out to the Indian Ocean, almost half of the famous Lake Victoria within its borders, and a group of wildlife-heavy national parks. Pop on your explorer hat and you'll be ready to go.

Tanzania's jam-packed with natural treats. Float down the Rufiji River or zoom across grassy plains towards frosty Mount Kilimanjaro. Just off the coast, Zanzibar's beaches are vast and sandy, and it's national parks are leafy and green. The island's also got a historic capital city – Zanzibar City – that likes to party after dark.

Top of the list of must-sees in Tanzania is the wildlife. There are the leopards and rhinos of the Serengeti, crocodiles in Ruaha National Park and lions and elephants hanging out in the Ngorongoro Crater. Monkeys call Zanzibar's lush Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park home – and it flutters with tropical birds, too.

The glass-like Indian Ocean around Zanzibar's a diver's dream – the Mnemba Atoll Marine Reserve's well-known for stingrays and sea turtles in its shallows. Swim a little further out to the busy coral reef for a chance to glimpse schools of shimmering fish.
