Iceland Winter Holidays Itinerary

Day 1

Depending on your arrival time, you can join a Reykjavik City Tour to get your bearings of the capital city. And in the evening, you can search the skies for the famous Northern Lights. Please check with your hotel reception at 6pm to see whether the tour is operating. When the weather forecast is favourable, you’ll be picked up from your hotel about 9pm, with the tour starting at 9.30pm. You’ll spend a few hours looking for the Aurora Borealis. But if the weather isn’t great, we’ll reschedule your Northern Lights hunt for another night, when you’ll hopefully have a better chance of seeing them. In the meantime, you can experience the nightlife of Reykjavik instead.

Day 2

Discover the sights of the Golden Circle on your second day. This 300-kilometre circuit takes a whole day to navigate, so we’ll pick you up from 8.30am for a 9am start. You can explore Thingvellir National Park, which spans the border between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This World Heritage Site is also home to Iceland’s largest lake. Your tour then takes you on to Gullfoss – a huge glacial waterfall – and an active geyser, Strokkur. Since you’re out all day, your lunch will be included. We’ll drop you back at your hotel by 4.30pm.

Day 3

It’s up to you how you spend the third day. If you fancy yourself as a budding photographer, join the South Shore Tour and take some photos of the dramatic landscape in southern Iceland. Or you could choose from our additional excursions and go snowmobiling, explore the inside of a glacier, or have a soak in the mystical Blue Lagoon. There are also whale-watching trips. Or you can spend some time in colourful Reykjavik, where you’ll find seafood restaurants, one-of-a-kind microbreweries, and the multi-million-pound Harpa concert hall.

Days 4-7

If you’ve booked a four or seven night stay in Iceland, you’ll have even more time to explore. You can take a Blue Lagoon evening tour. There's also a Reykjavik escape room, and trips to a secret lagoon and a lava tunnel. Just so you know, some excursions are only available to book in resort.

Please note: Since the Northern Lights are a weather-dependent natural phenomenon, their appearance cannot be guaranteed. Your Northern Lights hunt is scheduled to take place on the evening you arrive. However, if the weather isn’t great and your tour is cancelled, or the Lights don’t show during your tour, we’ll reschedule for another night, when you’ll hopefully have a better opportunity to see them. We aim to send you on the search at least once during your holiday. If for any reason adverse weather affects the operation of other excursions, then we will always do our best to try and reschedule these at some point during your stay.
