Get your history fix at the Villa Romana

This 1st-century Roman villa was built by nobles before the notorious Vesuvius eruption. It was discovered in 1932 and its underground chambers are now open to the public. Some frescos remain virtually untouched, along with a huge vaulted hall, and there are even signs of the original water heating system intact. A two-room museum showcases a collection of artefacts from surrounding towns – including some found at sea.
