A day in Annecy

Morning
Start the day with a stroll around the medieval centre. The middle of the Perrière is where you’ll get the best shot of Annecy’s must-snap photo opp – the Palais de I’île, or island castle. Then from here, it’s a 15-minute walk to Annecy Castle. With its 35m-high walls, it’s the place to head for views over the town, to the lake and peaks beyond.

Lunch
Staying in the Old Town, head to Tete Cochon for a bite to eat. Try the house speciality, tartine, which is a local take on a toasty and comes loaded with grilled cheese and cured meat.

Afternoon
Swimming and summer hols go hand in hand, and you’ve got 12 different lake beaches to choose from here. Sandy Plage d’Albigny is a few minutes' walk from the centre and has a grassy park where you can relax after your dip. If games and activities are more you, try the lido in nearby Talloires, which has volleyball, table tennis and a watersports centre.

Evening
Once the sun sets, follow the action to Rue Sainte Claire and bar hop your way along the street. In the mood for live music? Check out who’s playing at the Le Brise Glace concert hall.
