Peek inside the Gangatilake Stupa
One of Kalutara’s must-see sights is the Gangatilake Stupa – thought to be the world’s only hollow Buddhist shrine. Inside the gleaming white monument, its walls are decorated with murals depicting Buddha’s life story. Every day, it’s awash with visitors bringing gifts of food and flowers, and lighting coconut-oil lamps for prayers.
