Brush up on your Greek myths at the Palace of Knossos

The Palace of Knossos is the source of more stories and scandals than a soap opera. This Bronze Age Minoan city is said to have been the site of the fabled Labyrinth, a massive underground maze designed to hold a half-man half-bull creature called the Minotaur. According to legend, maidens were sacrificed to the Minotaur, until it was killed by Athenian hero Theseus. The drive here takes an hour-and-a-half from Rethymnon town.
