Sail to tiny Los Lobos Island, with its shimmering lakes and secluded beauty. Venture on a camel safari near Jandía. Visit historic Betancuria, the former capital ravaged and burned by pirates in 1593, to watch Casa Santa María's artists and explore the fascinating museum and Franciscan Monastery's ruins. See magnificent rock carvings at Mount Tindaya, thousands of cacti at Jardín Botánico, a 200 year old windmill in Antigua and traditional island life at the Tefia Craft Village.

Beaches

Warm golden dunes meet untouched stretches of sand to form a coastline of over 150 beaches, lapped by Atlantic waves ideal for windsurfing, sailing and fishing. Jandia's long sandy beaches, Corralejo's spectacular sand dunes and Cofete and El Cotillo's wild, deserted stretches are simply idyllic, while Costa Calma provides beach bars and the imported sands of Costa Caleta, formerly Caleta de Fuste, are ideal for families.

Food and drink

Delicious seafood is readily available, often accompanied with Mojo, a spicy pepper salsa. Local delicacies include Pejines, tiny sun-dried fish; Puchero Canario, a hearty casserole; and Papas Arrugadas, a potato side dish. Crème caramel is a popular sweet dessert. Fuerteventura is famous for its Gofio, an ancient blend of toasted maize or wheat, used in recipes like Gofio Amasado, a broth of potatoes, meat, wine and honey.
