Holidays to Hurghada City have it all going on. The unofficial capital of the Red Sea Riviera is one of the top dive spots in the area, and the nightlife and shopping earns top marks too.
Back in the day, Hurghada City was just a small Egyptian fishing village – now this mega resort is known as the capital of the Red Sea Riviera. And it’s certainly living up to its new title. It’s kept its credentials as one of the top dive spots in the area – but these days the place has also stocked up with a vibrant mix of shops, bars and clubs.
Long, sandy stretch
Most of the beach space around Hurghada City has been divvied up by the hotels – but if you want a change from your patch, you can often pay a small fee to use a different spot. You’ve got kayaking and jet-skiing for when you’re feeling active, while snorkelling and glass-bottomed boats get you up close to the coral.
Hurghada City doesn’t hang about on the party front. The place ticks off foam parties and laser shows along with traditional belly dancing displays if that’s more your thing.
Day trips to Giftun Island
About an hour by boat from Hurghada City takes you across the Red Sea to the uninhabited island of Giftun. This is a real unspoilt spot with white sand just made for sunbathing. The real draw, here, though, is the coral reef. You can snorkel close to shore or head out further to scuba dive among the moray eels, dolphins and brightly coloured fish.
