Golden sweeps of sand, lush rainforests and film-set scenery – everything you’d want from the Caribbean can be found on a holiday to St Lucia.

Beaches and beyond

This unspoilt corner of the Caribbean is so much more than a beach retreat. You’ve got a dramatic mountainous landscape that begs to be explored, lush rainforests to get lost in and rare wildlife species to spot. Head inland to find sparkling waterfalls surrounded by botanical gardens and an actual drive-in volcano. Road trip incoming…

Culture mash-up

West African and European influences have given St Lucia its distinct character. In the north you’ll find upmarket malls and modern marinas backed by seafront restaurants. Or, head south to find candy-coloured houses, barbecue stalls by the roadside and fish fry-ups on the beach.

All the action

Adventure-seekers will love exploring St Lucia’s diverse landscape, with adrenaline-fuelled activities both on land and in the sea. You can zip-line through the rainforest, hike up the Piton Mountains and take a dip in Diamond Falls. Plus, there’s every kind of watersport on offer, from kayaking and windsurfing to deep-sea fishing and jet-skiing.

The best months are typically December to May, where there’s lots of sunny weather and much lower rainfall. Visiting between June and November may be cheaper but just watch out for the risk of storms or hurricanes from August to October.

The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (XCD). You can actually use both XCD and US dollars, as US currency is widely accepted. But, paying in Eastern Caribbean Dollars can be slightly better value. ATMs are widely available, and major credit cards are commonly accepted at hotels, restaurants and tourist attractions.

Generally, no special vaccinations are mandatory for entry, but just make sure your travel insurance covers medical expenses, and check the latest health advice before travel.
