An Egyptian heavyweight
Sharm El Sheikh is a big personality. Spooling along Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, it runs from Nabq Bay in the north right down to Maya Bay in the south. Along the way it takes in Na’ama Bay, where the first hotel popped up back in the Eighties. And that pretty much covers everything – designer malls, electrifying nightlife and a whole lot of Red Sea.
A long stretch
You’ve got a whopping 35 kilometers of coastline to play with here. Sunbathing is an option, of course, and you’ve got plenty of sunlougers if you want to do just that. But the real draw round these parts is the diving and snorkelling. For that you can pick ’n’ mix from shallow lagoons, rocky inlets and full-on coral reefs.
You’ve got plenty to keep you entertained out of the water, too. At Ras Umm Sid you’ve got Aqua Park City, while over at the Soho Square centre in Shark’s Bay there’s a top line-up of activities like ice-skating and bowling. And for desert safaris and camel rides, you’ve got the Sinai Mountain.
Easy day trips
About an hour’s drive gets you to Dahab City. What you’ve got here is beachfront restaurants, Bedouin bazaars and a prime spot for windsurfing. Also an hour away – this time by boat – you’ve got world-famous dive sites around the Straits of Tiran and at Ras Mohamed National Park.
