Your jaw will drop the moment you spy the Azores from the sky and you’ll instantly see why this Portuguese Archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic is nick-named the “Hawaii of Europe”. Picture this: lush green pastures where the local cows are just chilling, stunning lagoons cradled by volcanoes and thermal pools that are basically nature’s hot tubs. On the activities front, you’ve hit the jackpot – hop on a whale-watching cruise, visit cheese factories, or take a tour of the famous Gorreana Tea Factory. Not to mention all the watersports on offer from paddleboarding to diving. Plus, there’s lots of hiking trails crisscrossed over the islands just waiting to be explored.

Best time to go to Azores

Prime time to hit the Azores is the summer. We’re talking lots of sunshine and temperatures that are just right – think mid to high twenties. Plus, in the summer you’ll catch local festivals like San Joaninas, Walk&Talk, and Mare de Agosto. If you’re more wallet-conscious or just want to miss the crowds, aim to visit in the period between April and June or September and October. The weather is still good, but you’ll beat the hustle and bustle of the summer season. Just a heads up – it’s a sub-tropical climate, so pack for the occasional storm, even in summer
